SINTEF as one of the largest independent research organizations in Europe with around 2000 employees and a turnover in the order of €350M, is heavily involved in and puts strategic emphasis on research towards renewable energy vectors and biorefinery research for conversion of alternative and biogenic feedstocks to valuable products and energy. SINTEF is actively participating in ETPs SusChem and Biofuels, EIBI, in the EERA Joint program on Bioenergy, and is an associated member of the European BBI Program. Within SUNFUSION, SINTEF will be actively engaged in the biocrude upgrading by hydrotreatment.
