CEA

CEA is an interdisciplinary research institute operating in the fields of nuclear energy, defence, electronics, physics, biology and renewable Energies. The CEA institute LITEN concentrates on renewable energies, including solar cells, hydrogen technologies and bio-resource conversion. CEA-LITEN works on biofuel projects since the year 2000, mostly by working on pyrolysis and gasification technologies. The laboratory started working on hydrothermal liquefaction and supercritical water gasification about 10 years ago. The hydrothermal research at CEA-LITEN uses batch reactors and continuous pilots operating from subcritical to supercritical conditions. The activities cover experimental and analytical work, modelling and simulation. Most aspects of the hydrothermal processes are covered, including the reaction kinetics, thermal studies, design of equipment and technical-economic evaluations. The laboratory disposes of a large database of experimental results and simulation models.
